NZGAP-Global

This programme is recognised as a fully Benchmarked GLOBALG.A.P. Scheme. Certified growers attain both an NZGAP and GLOBALG.A.P. number (GGN), facilitating access to markets that require GLOBALG.A.P. certification

Latest update (April 2025)

The new and improved NZGAP-Global version 7 is available now. The programme has been formally recognised by GLOBALG.A.P. after an extensive benchmarking process. NZGAP-Global v7 replaces NZGAP GLOBALG.A.P. Equivalent (GGE) v6.2. Audits against NZGAP-GGE v6.2 are no longer possible, however current certificates are valid until their expiry date. Growers currently certified to NZGAP GGE as well as new applicants will be audited against NZGAP-Global v7 going forward.

Introducing NZGAP-Global v7

All new applicants and certified growers have received the NZGAP-Global v7 documents (Programme Rules, Standard and Self-Assessment Checklist), which are also available to download below.

NZGAP will hold a webinar for growers later in 2025, prior to when most audits will take place. This will be an opportunity to introduce the new version and for growers to ask any questions they may have.

Overview:

  • Fully benchmarked and equivalent to the GLOBALG.A.P. standard (see GLOBALG.A.P. website)
  • Enables supply to customers worldwide that require GLOBALG.A.P. certification
  • Certified growers hold a GLOBALG.A.P. certificate and number (GGN)
  • GLOBAL.G.A.P. certification that is customised to New Zealand production systems and practices
  • Independently audited by accredited (e.g. JAS-ANZ) certification bodies
  • Growers also get an NZGAP number to gain transparency in the local market via the NZGAP register

NZGAP-Global is recognised as a “Fully Benchmarked GLOBALG.A.P. Scheme”. This means that the programme Rules and Standard have been reviewed and accepted as meeting the equivalent outcomes of the GLOBALG.A.P. General Regulations and Principles and Criteria for Fruit and Vegetables.

The difference between GLOBAL.G.A.P. and NZGAP-Global is that NZGAP-Global has been specifically developed for New Zealand producers. It addresses the same issues in a New Zealand context by describing our production systems, farm ownership structures, technical terms and practices and can be updated to reflect changes that affect NZ growers. By keeping aligned with NZ regulatory requirements NZGAP-Global is positioned to enable regulatory recognition and assist growers with meeting the applicable regulatory requirements .
