Annual Activity Report 2023

The NZGAP Activity Report for 2023 is now available.  The report provides an overview of NZGAP's strategy, structure, standards, and activity in the last financial year (1 April 2022 - 31 March 2023).

The NZGAP Committee chairperson Tony Howey says: “The market, and ultimately the consumer, is becoming more demanding with increasing requirements to meet expectations that the produce is safe to eat while also being ethically and sustainably produced. During the year the team have made significant advances in the Version 7 development which will allow Global Food Safety Initiative recognition for export to Australian supermarkets. This will be a major step forward and a good option for growers whose produce is exported. This will be my last annual report as I retire off the committee at the Annual Meeting. I have enjoyed my time as the HortNZ nominee to the committee and hope I’ve provided some value to the team and to the interests of our grower members over the last 6.5 years. All the best for the NZGAP team to continue to develop the most trusted, valued and integrated assurance program.

NZGAP continues to build its credibility and recognition within the fresh produce industry.

The past year has been one of progress and growth for NZGAP with the implementation of a number of new programmes and an increase in the number of NZGAP certificate holders. In the coming year we are looking forward to the release of a new version (6) of the checklist and a sustainability programme for growers. We will continue to develop systems and tools that are valuable to growers, including using spatial and data technology to reduce audit times.
